about
An original piece written for my senior recital in 2016, "Angelo's Garden" explores dissonance as it exists in sound and relationships. The lyrics and melody for this piece--written in response to Joe Lovano's tune "Juniper's Garden"--are constant fixtures that the saxophonist improvises with to define the boundaries in which both characters (represented by voice and saxophone, respectively) shift in and out of sync of one another.
lyrics
All alone here I sit and I wonder
of the world and how we lie
and how we fall out of love.
And I think to myself,
"how can we go on like this?"
My heart is only so strong
and, dear, I can't go on
singing my song for you
if you won't sing along with my tune.
Summer and spring could not last
and left warm days in the past
and winter left our trees bare
and, dear, I can't go on
sending my love to you
if you can't promise me all of you.
We can't go on like this,
only in love when we kiss.
Darling, please don't let me
hanging on
if you won't sing my song.
All alone here I sit
and I think of you.
